FRITZ & MACZIOL Install iSeries High Availability Solution

What began in 1931 with a small joiner’s workshop, has become in the meantime the epitome of furniture variety. Over the last 74 years, the Inhofer family company has developed with vision and entrepreneurial spirit into one of the most successful furniture businesses in Germany.

Vision also affected the choice of the internal IT department when it was time to realise a high availability solution in combination with the existing iSeries Model 820, which was at the limits of its performance capacity. For this requirement, their long-established business partner FRITZ & MACZIOL, who already provide almost the complete DP environment of the furniture company, developed a concept based on an iSeries Model 520 with 3300 CPW (Enterprise Edition), including 3582 LTO 3 Tape Library and the high availability software Orion Professional with Active Data. Since November 2005, the solution has been running productively and provides, thanks to the high availability of the business-relevant application, a smooth operating procedure with clearly improved response and protection times.

The furniture experts are well set up for the future with this IT structure. They now have the newest processor technology to produce a good price/performance ratio, which allows the native operation of several operating systems, such as OS/400, Linux and AIX. At the same time, the high scalability within the system allows them to react quickly to growing requirements – and thus guarantees them a high degree of investment security.
