Upgrade to High Availability Solution Stabilises DP Structure

For more than 85 years, Mubea has been a synonym for top quality in technical springs. As future-oriented as the world-wide automobile sub-contractor is at its numerous sites in Germany with the development of its high-tech products, the internal IT department proved to be just as innovative when an increase to the existing DP structure was needed.

All applications to date ran on the iSeries main platform, such as the XPPS ERP System from FRITZ & MACZIOL partner INFOR Global Solution and SAP Fi/CO and HR for the financial department. Instead, two iSeries Models 810 and 820 combined by the MIMIZ HA solution were used as mirrored systems for the XPPS and a third 820 was used for the SAP applications. However, due to the additional connection of sites in the USA, Brazil and China, the performance limit was reached.
 
Together with FRITZ & MACZIOL, a concept was developed that provided for a »distribution of tasks« in the existing system, but also an upgrade. Afterwards, the previous XPPS production system Model 810 with 1470/1470 CPW became a back up system, whilst the XPPS back-up system Model 820 with 950/35 used to date, was upgraded to an i5 520 with 2400/2400 CPW and promoted to the high-performance XPPS production system. VisionSolution replaces the MIMIX HA solution.

Since the start of 2005, the new i5 Model 520 with VisionSolution as the high availability solution has been performing all of its services to satisfaction, supported by the former production system iSeries Model 810 as back-up. At the same time, the iSeries Model 270 used in the USA was also mirrored to the German back-up system with VisionSolution, so that in the event of local failure, work can continue with the German back-up system.

Thanks to the implementation of the new high availability solution with VisionSolution, which offers high stability and simple administration on the basis of the automization processes, effort and costs are reduced in equal measure.
