Once large customers Yamama SCC and Qassim CC were on FRITZ & MACZIOL’s reference list, the largest cement works in Saudi Arabia also chose VAS®. From Summer 2009, the despatch automation solution will be used at the Saudi Cement Company (SCC) at the Hofuf works and at the port of Dammam. As a result, FRITZ & MACZIOL is really strengthening its market presence in the MENA Region.
With a daily despatch of approx. 33,000 tonnes of cement, which are then processed using the VAS® system (the average in Germany is around 3,000 tonnes), this project is the biggest challenge to date for the logistics solution and the IAS team around project manager Jens Büschl. FRITZ & MACZIOL’s proven expertise and flexibility on such large projects were the reasons for the decision. SCC required replacement and modernisation of the existing despatch system and integration of the new plant. A further decisive criteria was the guarantee of local service in Arabic. In addition to in and out registration, thirty loading terminals for loose loading and eight for bagged cement, several types of raw material supply, train loading and ship loading and unloading are integrated into VAS®.
Two IBM xSeries servers are designed as a redundant VAS® system. The engineering and execution of the necessary network were also part of the service supplied. Thanks to the implementation of VAS®, SCC is now one of the most up-to-date cement works in the Arabian area. The project is being implemented in several stages because of the scope of service. The first stage will go live in summer 2009 with completion is planned for February 2010. |
