Using TCO Analysis to Choose an SAP Environment on System p with High Availability

For various reasons, Berker GmbH & Co KG had to perform a Unicode migration in preparation for the release change from SAP 4.7 to ERP ECC 6.0. As part of international orientation, the system environment also needed to have high availability. For this purpose, the company had a platform comparison done between IBM System p and System x.

The TCO analysis by FRITZ & MACZIOL produced a clear result: System p was the best platform. As the supplier of contactors, switching systems and intelligent building system technology really had two challenges with an old SAP release with several languages and an AS/400 that had reached its performance limits, it followed the recommendations for the latest SAP release with Unicode and live operation was possible just two months later. Berker received all services from FRITZ & MACZIOL, from the TCO analysis, through hardware conception and supply, SAP Unicode migration and realisation on the high availability System p, up to remote service operation.
