IBM WebSphere Portal as Central Company Platform

Sto AG

The IBM WebSphere Portal is a strategic IT platform at Sto AG. Within the intranet StoInside started on 1/7/2008, it offers a sales application for the sales team to create and manage offers and conditions and the budgeted promotional shop media basket. Some 1,500 staff are currently working with the portal daily at the leading specialist for heat insulation for houses and facades and supplier of paints and plasters. As different subsidiaries at home and abroad are using the portal in addition to Sto AG itself, multi-language versions are also available and 3,000 users will be served from now on.
To fulfil the high demands for stability, availability and scalability, FRITZ & MACZIOL received the order to design and implement the necessary architecture and infrastructure and, at the same time, to build the appropriate know-how with the Sto administrators. The developers at Sto should also be able to realise portal applications themselves and enjoy active involvement in development with service providers. In this way, the company hopes to avoid dependencies. FRITZ & MACZIOL implemented a solution based on this specification of a clustered IBM WebSphere Portal Server 6.0 and IBM WebSphere Application Server 6.0 with DB2 on Linux under VMware. At the same time, connection was effected to SAP and IBM Lotus Domino. In the process, the team showed that it was completely responsible for the development, architecture, migration and operation of the previous portal version 5.1, which was also installed by FRITZ & MACZIOL.
Customer Benefits The portal offers Sto AG a stable, reliable and future-proof base for applications on the intranet and extranet and a strategic company platform for staff and, in future, for customers too. The universal user interface portal for access to SAP, Domino and other applications reduces the need for training and enables task and role-based working. By enabling administrators and developers at Sto, FRITZ & MACZIOL has allowed the company to retain the necessary know-how for operation and application development in-house, but always with a strong partner, FRITZ & MACZIOL, at its side.
