Formula for System Modernisation with zSeries and IFL
v.d. Linde Arzneimittel GmbH
»It is not enough to recognize opportunities. You have to exploit them actively.« This mission statement is the force behind the activities of v.d.Linde- Arzneimittel GmbH, Hilden. With innovative, close to the market concepts, the supplier has developed into one of the leading large pharmaceuticals companies in North Rhine-Westphalia. There are more than 100,000 products at the company’s two sites, which are delivered daily to more than 2000 pharmacies. More than 90% of the orders are processed via the IT system, controlled to the minute from the pharmacies’ computers. Naturally, a reliable IT platform is essential.
The current planning by those responsible therefore involves an increase in the IT system and, at the same time, an application modernisation, which should facilitate an upgrade to different Linux-based applications. However, the supreme goal was to reduce costs clearly within the next 48 months. A task that v.d.Linde passed to the Düsseldorf team of FRITZ & MACZIOL.
The company from Hilden were quite convinced that in FRITZ & MACZIOL they had found a systems company who could advise them competently across all the brands and who could look after their needs. The concept now developed by the F&M experts in the course of the consultation services to meet the requirements, involves the upgrade of the IT structure using a powerful zSeries 890 with IFL processor for the application modernisation with HATS and WebSphere.
The new configuration is to start in January 2006. Then, the large company will have a forward-looking, powerful and also cost-reducing system at their disposal, which also makes use of the planned applications easier for non-mainframe users thanks to its self-explanatory graphical interface.
